About
Calm, honest help for a tidier Mac.
TidyUp Mac is a small, independent guide. We write down what actually keeps a Mac's storage in order — and skip the scare tactics.
Why we made this
Search "my Mac is full" and you'll wade through blinking warnings and one-tap "fixes" that cause more worry than they solve. We wanted the opposite: a calm explanation of where your storage really goes, and steps you can follow yourself with the tools Apple already includes in macOS.
Everything here has been done many times on our own Macs and on those of friends and family. We test on current macOS before publishing, and revisit the steps whenever Apple moves things around.
How we approach it
We treat tidying a Mac like tidying a desk — ordinary upkeep, not an emergency. Understand what's taking up room, make a few gentle changes, then let simple habits keep things in order. That's the whole idea.
Our test for any step: it has to be safe to reverse, and we have to be able to explain it in a sentence. If it fails either, it doesn't go in the guide.
What you won't find here
- Countdown timers, red alerts, or "your Mac is at risk" theatrics.
- Pressure to buy or install anything to follow along.
- Promises of dramatic, guaranteed speed-ups — real Macs are more nuanced than that.
What we do (and what we don't)
TidyUp Mac is an educational publication. We write and share how-to articles about macOS storage and everyday maintenance you can do yourself, using the tools already built into your Mac. That's all we do.
We are not a support service. We do not provide one-to-one technical support, device diagnostics, repairs, virus or malware removal, account or password recovery, or software installation, and we never ask for remote access to anyone's Mac. If you need hands-on help, Apple Support or an authorised service provider is the right place to go.
Independence
We publish independently and represent no maker of hardware or software. TidyUp Mac is not affiliated with Apple Inc. Apple, Mac, MacBook, and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Our aim is simply to help you enjoy the Mac you already own.
